What is Creamfields Festival?
Creamfields is a large electronic/dance music festival featuring DJs and live acts held annually on the August Bank Holiday weekend in Daresbury, Cheshire, England. It includes two days of camping and some of the most renowned electronic acts such as Deadmau5, The Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers, David Guetta, and Gnarls Barkley, who have all graced Creamfields’ stages.
Eight Separate Venues
There are eight separate venues to see the acts, including the main stage. As well as a huge bill of acts, there are also other things you can do at the Creamfields festival. The site has a vanity van to pamper yourself at and a cinema tent with a selection of clubbing classics available to watch.
Held in fifteen different countries, including Spain, Turkey, Australia, Mexico, and even Buenos Aires, Creamfields festival is considered one of the biggest summer festivals in England and the biggest clubbing event of the year.
History of Creamsfield Festival
Cream is based in the Nation nightclub in Liverpool, England. It began as a once-a-week house music night and ran this way for ten years. Cream nights helped to launch some of the biggest names in house music. Since the Creamfields festival attracted 25,000 people to Winchester for the August bank holiday of 1998, it has become widely known as the finale of the summer festival season in England.
Creamfields festival first international event
At first, the festival was not a camping festival in the way that Reading or Glastonbury and before its current location in Daresbury, the festival was held on the Old Airfield in Liverpool. While the Cream club nights are known for mainly playing house, Creamfields festival hosts artists from a wide range of the most popular genres in dance, such as drum ‘n’ bass, house, including hard, deep, trib, and funky, as well as indie.
Creamfields festival first international event was in 2000 at Punchestown Racecourse, Dublin, Ireland, including sets and performances from Cream resident Yousef, DJ Tiga, Sugababes, Faithless, Underworld, Mauro Picotto and Tom Middleton. In 2009, Creamfields won a UK Festival Award for best dance festival.
Creamfields Festival 2012
In its 13th year, this year’s festival will be from the 24th of August to the 26th of August. Headliners include deadmau5, Tiësto, Paul Van Dyk, and David Guetta. Other performances include Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, Calvin Harris, Example, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Seth Troxler, Gaise,r Paco Osuna, Groove Armada (DJ Set), A-Tr,ak and many more.
Things to Remember
First-time festival-goers, here are a few tips to help you survive Creamfields:
- Better safe than sorry – Though Creamfields Festival has security guards patrolling the site, it is better to only bring things that are necessary for the two-day camp and leave your valuables at home.
- Keep Warm – Even in summer, nights in Glastonbury gets pretty nippy. So don’t forget to bring any clothes to warm you up on chilly nights.
- Enjoy – You’re in a festival, so lighten up and seize the moment. Dance your days and night away and make new friends to share it with.
